It is essential to clean jewellery periodically. Therefore, we recommend annual cleaning for well-worn items to keep them in the best possible condition.

Having your piece cleaned in our in-house workshop also gives our team time to check your item closely with a jeweller’s loupe checking for any signs of wear or tear and advising on any repairs that may be necessary; think of jewellery cleaning more like planned preventative maintenance than just having your item cleaned.

If you wear your pearl or beaded jewellery often, it is advisable to have them periodically restrung to avoid breakages; Coppins recommend annually for pieces worn daily and for inherited pearl jewellery where the age of the silk is unknown, it is advisable to have it renewed for peace of mind.

Restringing gives an excellent opportunity to clean each pearl or bead individually. After which, we can start the restring process, carefully sequencing each gem on the new silk or cord; it is advisable but not compulsory to have a knot adding between each adornment to prevent damage from them rubbing against one another and, crucially, stopping in the event of breakage all the jewels from falling off and being lost.

Coppins can replace batteries and make strap adjustments to all makes and models of watch, so if your beloved timepiece has stopped ticking, your leather strap needs replacing, or your watch bracelet requires the removal of some links, we can help.

If a ring you have been wearing has become too tight, Coppins have the tools to remove it with care and minimal damage, after which we suggest the finger is allowed to return to normal over a week or two; then, if you wish, we can remeasure, repair and adjust the size.
