Our History

Coppins Established 1979

The story of Coppins began over 45 years ago, when in the late 1970s founder John Coppin, having left the fashionable ‘Way In’ jewellery boutique at Harrods in London, set out in search of his own premises. Together with his wife Ann and their young family, they moved from London to Wiltshire and, in 1979, established a fully functioning workshop in the basement of their new home in Bradford-on-Avon. From these humble beginnings, they carried out jewellery repairs and commissions, steadily building a loyal customer base. Their passion and vision for an artisan showroom and workshop of their own soon became a reality.

In 1983, John and Ann opened Coppins in the historic market town of Corsham with a modest stock level and a small team. Through their dedication and exceptional customer service, they continued to grow the business and earned a reputation as one of Wiltshire’s leading jewellers.

The Workshop

Goldsmithing has been woven into Coppins from the very beginning. What started as a small workshop in John and Ann’s basement has grown into the fully equipped onsite workshop we have today, with dedicated spaces for goldsmithing, polishing and laser welding.

This workshop is a central part of who we are. It is where traditional techniques, practical problem solving and modern technology come together, allowing us to work carefully and precisely while keeping the hands-on approach that has always shaped Coppins.

Our team brings together designers, goldsmiths, silversmiths, stone setters and gemmologists, each with their own specialist skills and knowledge. Ideas are shared, details are considered, and every piece benefits from the experience of people who understand different parts of the jewellery trade.

For us, good goldsmithing is about more than technique. It is about understanding the materials, listening properly, respecting the meaning behind a piece of jewellery and taking the time to do the work properly. That care is at the heart of our workshop, whether we are creating something new or looking after jewellery that has been loved for many years.

Daisy Coppin, DGA

Daisy Coppin, DGA, is a qualified diamond and gemstone specialist as well as a talented designer, and she leads the team at Coppins. As a second-generation family jeweller, Daisy has been involved in the business from a young age, developing a lifelong passion for fine jewellery. She continues to expand her expertise by attending gemmological conferences and international trade exhibitions across Europe and Asia, and by working closely with UK-based stone suppliers to source fine diamonds and precious gemstones. This dedication fuels her creativity and inspires both the in-house team and her clients.

"Listening to customers, understanding their story and getting the piece just right is one of the things I love most."
