Bespoke Design & Remodelling

Design your own

Bespoke Jewellery Design

Our bespoke jewellery design service is a chance to create something personal, thoughtfully designed and made especially for you. Whether you are marking a special occasion, reimagining unworn jewellery or starting with a completely new idea, our team will guide you through the process.

From the first conversation and initial sketches to choosing gemstones, refining the design and creating the finished piece, we work closely with you at every stage to make sure the jewellery feels right for you.

New lease of Life

Heirloom Remodelling

Inherited jewellery often carries great sentimental value, even if the piece itself is seldom worn. Heirloom remodelling allows us to preserve the meaning, precious metal and gemstones from an existing piece, while giving it a new lease of life in a design that feels more suited to you.

Whether you would like to refresh a family heirloom, combine stones from several pieces or completely reimagine unworn jewellery, our team can talk you through the possibilities and help create something that can be enjoyed for years to come.

How it works

The Design & Making Process

1 - Getting Started

The first step in creating a bespoke piece of jewellery is simply to speak with one of our in-house designer jewellers. You are always welcome to visit us without an appointment, although booking in advance is advisable so we can set aside time to give you the best possible service.

If you would like to book ahead, appointments can be arranged by phone, email or WhatsApp. If you are unable to visit us in person, we can also discuss and design bespoke commissions remotely by phone, email or video call, allowing you to begin the process wherever you are.

Our bespoke service has no additional design charge, and any quotation is provided with no pressure to proceed, giving you time to consider your options.

2 - Inspiration

Once your appointment is in the diary, it is time to start thinking about the piece you would like to create. Don't worry if you are unsure where to begin. Inspiration can come from many places, from jewellery you already love to colours, gemstones, textures, places or personal memories.

It can also be helpful to think about your preferences beforehand. You might have a favourite metal, gemstone, colour, finish or style, or a particular meaning you would like the piece to hold.

Photos, sketches and any other imagery are always useful, whether you bring them with you or send them to us ahead of your appointment. These details help us understand your ideas and begin shaping them into a design.

3 - Design

During your appointment, our designers will talk through your ideas, preferences, lifestyle and budget before beginning to develop initial sketches. We will explain the options available and help you choose precious metals and gemstones that suit both your design and your budget.

You are welcome to explore diamonds, coloured gemstones and different metal options for inspiration. If you already have jewellery or gemstones you would like to incorporate, we can also discuss whether they may be suitable for reuse within your new design.

These concepts can then be refined with you until we reach a design that feels right. Once the final design and costs have been agreed, we may create a detailed drawing, CAD design or model in wax or metal, depending on the piece.

Once everything has been agreed, we ask for a non-refundable deposit, usually 20%, before work begins.

4 - Creation

Once the design is confirmed, our workshop can begin creating your piece. Depending on the design, some pieces may be hand forged, while others may be designed using CAD, cast and then finished by hand.

We use a thoughtful combination of traditional goldsmithing skills and modern technology, choosing the approach that will produce the best result for your piece. Our designers, goldsmiths and stone setters work closely together, with each bringing their specialist skills to different stages of the process.

Bespoke pieces typically take around 6 to 8 weeks to complete, although we will always do our best to work within your timescale where possible.

5 - Collection

Once your bespoke piece is complete, it will pass from our workshop to our polishing room to receive its final polish and clean before being carefully checked and boxed.

When you collect your jewellery, we will make sure you are happy with every detail, including the fit and finish. Should any final adjustments be needed, we will discuss these with you before you take your piece home.

6 - Aftercare

All Coppins bespoke creations come with a two-year warranty against defects in design, materials and workmanship. They also benefit from complimentary lifetime cleaning and polishing at our Corsham workshop.

We recommend having your piece cleaned and checked periodically. This gives our team the opportunity to examine it carefully with a jeweller’s loupe or under the microscope and check for any signs of wear.

With regular care, your bespoke jewellery can continue to be worn and enjoyed for many years to come. Full details can be found in our Warranty & Aftercare policy.

Craftsmanship

Designed & Made In-House

Our onsite workshop brings together designers, goldsmiths, silversmiths, stone setters and gemmologists, each with their own specialist skills and knowledge. Working closely as a team, we can guide a design from the first conversation through to the finished piece, with practical advice at every stage.

Whether you are creating a bespoke engagement ring, remodelling inherited jewellery, marking a special occasion or tailoring a design to a particular budget, we will help you explore what is possible and create something personal, considered and beautifully made.
